Weather, Cancellation and other Policies

Safety is the number one priority at Reflections DC, but we also want to ensure that you have the best possible experience. 
Worried about flexibility? We also strive to put your mind at ease with any late conflicts that can pop up.

Weather Policy

A little bit of rain or wind won’t ruin our trip, but a lot of it will. The following forecast, on the day and areas of our trip, will result in cancellation. Sometimes, based on the captain’s experience, if a combination of factors will make your trip unpleasant, the captain may cancel the trip at their discretion.  A full refund will be provided to weather or safety related cancellations.  If the trip gets is aborted during the tour, a full refund will be provided if less than half the tour is completed, and a 50% refund will be provided if more than half of the trip is completed.  You will receive notification via e-mail of any weather or safety related cancellations.  Please note that a drop in temperature is not grounds for cancellation, unless temperatures fall below 58 degrees.

DC River Tour, Sunset Experience, and other trips on Cortina 

  • 0.08″ or more rain
  • Winds above 20 knots coming from South or Northewest (23mph), winds above 22knots (25mph) from any other direction
  • Waves over 3 feet
  • At captain’s discretion for safety

Pleasure Sail, Discovery Sail, Sailing Fundamentals, Sailing Excursions and other cruises on Sonora 

  • Small Craft Advisories, unless special waiver is signed and approved by captain
  • Either waves over 4 feet or rain forecasted for over 50% of the duration of the trip
  • At captain’s discretion for safety

Children and Pets

We love children and animals!  
Children ages five and up can participate the cruises with Reflections DC and enjoy child pricing.  Children under the age of thirteen must wear a life jacket at all times.  Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parents.  
If your party will exceed the stated capacity of the cruise but includes children, please contact us.  

Up to two leashed, potty trained dogs under 50lbs/23kgs may participate the cruises with Reflections DC.  Two dogs will incur a charge for one child, but one dog may be brought along free of charge.  All pets must have a floatation device on at all times.  We do not carry floatation devices for dogs and it is up to the owner to bring a properly fitted one for their pets.  Please be mindful of the passenger weight limits when bringing a pet.  Sorry, we do not allow cats aboard our vessels.  (I do love cats!  I have one at home)

Cancellations made 24 hours or in advance – Full Refund
Cancellations made within 24 hours – 50% refund
No-shows with no notice – no refund 
Weather cancellation (Captain’s discretion per weather policy) – Full Refund

Sailing Excursions 
Cancellations at least 5 days in advance – Full Refund
Cancellations 2-5 days in advance – 50% Refund
Cancellations within 48 hours or no shows do not receive a refund
Weather cancellation (Captain’s discretion as per weather policy) – Full Refund
